Build a wildlife pond
Do you want to build a wildlife pond? As a youngster I was fascinated by pond life and by the age of nine our backyard had an assortment of containers including an old enamel washtub, plastic bowls and a ceramic sink all containing a variety of organisms - mostly various pond snails and flatworms as they were readily found and easy to keep alive.
In 2005 a childhood dream was fulfilled when my wife permitted me to build my very own small (11ft x 5ft) wildlife pond.
These pages are to share with you my love of pond life and perhaps give you motivation and enough knowledge to sample the delights of a wonderful ecosystem for yourself.
|I'm glad I had the foresight to keep a
photographic and video record of the pond becoming established and an
album containing lots of images of the many little critters that are now a
part of our lives.
Underwater video has given us a whole new dimension to our pleasure and I may later share some of these moments and give you a laugh when you see my homemade equipment.
The image is of a Damsel Fly. They don't bite, they don't sting. They just add interest and beauty to the garden.
